A Local, Student-Led Campaign to Let 16- and 17-Year-Olds Vote in Culver City School Board & Municipal Elections

Vote16

Why Vote16?

Expanding the voting age increases long-term civic engagement and raises a generation of habitual voters.

Many teens drive, have jobs, and pay taxes. Teens deserve a say in the local policies that affect them.

16- and 17-year-olds already vote successfully in 6 U.S. cities and 29 countries worldwide.

"Cold cognition,” the complex decision-making skill used in voting, is found to be fully developed by 16.*

Help us get on the 2024 Ballot

To get on the 2024 Culver City ballot, we need to petition. So, we're spending the first half of 2024 gathering 4,200 in-person signatures from Culver City voters. If we reach this goal, our measure will be on your ballot in November.

Why Sign our Petition?

A signature is not a vote. Our petition gets a measure to enfranchise 16- and 17-year-olds onto the ballot, not into legislation. By signing, you give yourself and other Culver City voters the opportunity to decide who can vote on local policies.

Voters deserve a second opportunity. This is not the first time Vote16 has had a measure like this. In 2022, we were on the ballot as "Measure VY." VY lost by 16 votes, receiving 49.95% of the 16,602 total and more votes than any city council candidate that year. Furthermore, this result doesn't accurately represent the views of Culver City voters, as nearly 50% of them didn't cast a ballot in the election.

2022's result was indecisive. Culver City voters deserve a second chance to voice their opinion.
